Namaskaram wonderful people, today I wanted to ask you a question before health tips.

What is health and how do you achieve it?

(Please give yourself an answer before reading rest of the blog)

In general when we talk about Ayurveda or any other health sciences, the first thought which flashes is ‘medicine’, to treat the problems or supplements for prevention.

But have you ever thought any other way of being in health?

In Ayurveda, the maintenance of health is explained in every aspect of life, from womb to death, assigned specific herbs for different body parts and treatments, techniques for wellness of 5 senses.

The overall concept is

Healthy body + Happy mind = Happy life.

In one of the verses from Ayurvedic books says,

“As the charioteer takes care of his chariot, one must take care of their health.”

We can take the example of our vehicles and driving, according to present times.

We should maintain the vehicle every day not just when it breaks down, at the same time should be alert and present to drive safely on the road.

Our ride of life in this body is similar, we must maintain wellness every day, not just in sickness.

These are 8 tips from Ayurveda for your healthy daily routine:

  • Waking up early morning: the verse from Ashtanga Hridayam explains

“Brahmi muhurtam uttishthet swastho rakshartham ayusha: tatra sarvartha shantyartham smareccha madhusudanam"

Meaning : The one who wakes up in the brahma muhurta can sustain perfect health and achieve long life span, as desired.

(Brahma muhurtam is normally between 3:30 to 5:30)

  • Turning right side while waking up: It activates the Surya nadi which is on the right side of the body.

  • Rubbing the palms, cupping the eyes and gently opening the eyes while looking at palms: this is like a ritual for our energy and consciousness to gently ease into the light after long sleep.

  • Cleansing the body: this includes brushing, cleaning tongue, emptying bowels, Abhyanga and shower.

  • Daily practice: cultivate a daily practice which includes Yoga and Meditation

  • Avoid sleeping after lunch: Sleeping in the afternoon is not recommended as it slows down the digestion.

  • Evening time is activity time: spending time with family and friends, laughing and playing will improve the quality of life.

  • Night routine: there should be at least 2 hours gap between your dinner and sleep for better digestion. Cultivating practices like Yin Yoga and meditation before sleep enhances the quality of sleep.

It’s always good to design your healthy routine according to your body type.
